Around every 3 to 5 years the sand in your sand filter wears out and needs replacing. The sharp edges of the sand particles become worn and rounded and doesn't capture the contaminants. Not only can these particles go back into your pool reducing your filter effectiveness they can also clumps together due to sunscreen and body oils creating channels and bypassing any filtration.

How do I tell if I need a Sand Change?

If you're not already on an automatic replacement plan you will start to notice that your pool water is not as clean and the time between required backwashes is shorter.

Another tell tail sign is there is something wrong with the Multi Port Valve. It is either stiff, worn or worst still leaking.

Time for a sand change.
